FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Why are we decommissioning 2G services on our Network? What are the benefits to the customers?
Digicel is making a significant upgrade to its network to align with the latest technology trends and provide its mobile customers with an enhanced experience. This upgrade will see the decommissioning of our legacy 2G network on March 31st, 2024 (“deadline date”), so that we can focus our resources on more advanced technologies, including 3G, 4G, 4G LTE and LTE-A.
This strategic move is designed to provide customers with improved call quality and clarity, faster browsing, smoother connectivity, better video streaming and an overall superior user experience. Additionally, by upgrading from 2G, customers will be able to explore a wider range of mobile applications and services using the internet.
2. How will this change be communicated to our customers?
The 2G decommissioning will be communicated to customers via Media Release. Digicel customers with 2G devices and/ or SIM cards will receive an SMS on their device advising them to visit a Digicel store to upgrade their SIM card and/ or device.
3. What will happen if I don’t change my SIM card by the deadline date?
Digicel has deployed the latest in SIM card security with USIMs since 2015. Only these USIMs will work on our LTE network so transferring your 2G SIM card to an LTE device won’t work. Customers are required to upgrade to LTE SIM card and/ or device. Using the wrong SIM card and device may result in poor call quality, slow data, or buffering.
4. How will I know if my current SIM card and Phone is compatible with the Digicel Mobile network?
Customers can visit the LTE checker on our website to confirm compatibility:

Customers with incompatible devices and/ or SIM cards will also be notified via SMS.
5. How will Digicel be communicating to customers about switching their SIM cards?
Customers with incompatible devices and/ or SIM cards will receive an SMS advising them to visit the nearest Digicel Store to upgrade their device.
